A Research Interview Series by Prateek Bhajanka, Former Gartner Analyst

Field Security Insights

A research interview series where the vendors shaping security take the seat across from a former Gartner analyst, and a security leader who has to buy what they sell. One topic per episode, answered in the open.

  • Three vendors answer it. BluSapphire, Spharaka, Exaforce

  • A former Gartner analyst asks. Prateek Bhajanka

The Problem

The Security Leader

Prateek in conversation with a security leader: what exposure management has to answer, which vulnerabilities are genuinely exploitable, and how they decide what to fix first. No vendors in the room.

Segment 1 of 4

Seeing is believing.

There are three ways to understand a security product. Walk through them.

Reading takes hours.

The research

Reports, analysis, frameworks. The slow, deep way to understand a market. It has always existed, and it always will. But nobody reads at the speed the market moves.

Meet Prateek Bhajanka

Prateek is not a media personality who learned security. He is a security practitioner and former Gartner analyst who picked up a microphone, and he asks vendors the questions buyers actually have.

Meet Ravisha Chugh

Ravisha has spent more than a decade in cybersecurity, from a security operations center to Gartner's email and data security research. She has also worked inside a vendor, so she knows how security products are evaluated and how they are sold, and she asks the questions that separate the two.

The early years

SOC & Consulting

Ravisha started close to the tools, gaining hands-on experience in a security operations center and working with organizations such as IBM, IHS Markit, and McKinsey & Company.

Gartner

Senior Principal Analyst

Over five years at Gartner she was lead analyst for email security, data loss prevention, and data classification, authoring Magic Quadrants and Market Guides, including the Market Guides for Email Security and Data Loss Prevention and research on business email compromise.

Fortra

Product Marketing Lead

She then moved to the vendor side, working with enterprise security and IT teams and guiding Fortra's email security product strategy and messaging. She saw firsthand how a product's story gets built.

Global Field CISO

Today she is Global Field CISO at FieldCISO. On Field Security Insights she brings both sides of the table to the mic: the analyst who scored the market and the insider who shaped the pitch.

Ravisha wrote the Market Guides buyers use to shortlist email and data security vendors, then helped a vendor tell its own story. When she asks what a platform really does, a polished pitch is not going to get past her.
